First, I want say how impressed I am that, according to the cover, this is a Will Eisner Winner. The second thing I want to say is “Who the hell is Will Eisner?” I’ve never heard of this award in my life. I know of lots of awards for books, and this book did not win any of them judging by the cover.
It also says that “From the #1 New York Times Bestselling Author” — That tells me right away that even though the author was bestseller for other titles, this one did not do very well.
The big yellow smiley face wearing braces strikes us as a little creepy. We would have to guess that the book is about someone who must wear braces and what that is like for them. The colors suggest humor.
Not much thought went into this simple cover, and we suppose the book is an easy read.
Frankly, we do not find this compelling at all.
Smile is the graphic novel autobiography going through the true experiences and journey of Raina as her life gets turned upside down when she takes a bad fall, resulting in her two front teeth becoming severely injured.
