The image definitely gets our attention—a guy dressed as an olive (complete with a pimento beret) lounging in a martini glass. Right away, it tells us this will be a visually fun book. The title surprises us—we never really thought about SNL portrait photography, but sure, they’ve been photographing the cast for decades. It’s an interesting subject.
The only thing that throws us off a bit is that the cover doesn’t look like a photograph but more like an illustration. Since we assume “SNL portraits” means photography, we expected a more photographic feel. That said, the most important thing about a cover is whether it makes you want to pick the book up and flip through it. This one absolutely does. If we saw it on a bookstore table, we’d definitely browse—though, if we’re being honest, we might enjoy it in the store and leave it behind.
We also like how the author’s name bends with the martini glass—nice touch.
Based on the Cover, We Think This Book Is About…
