The Tears of Things

Reviewed by Richard Rohr

The subtitle—“Prophetic Wisdom for an Age of Outrage”—is a strong hook. We’re all outraged these days, so if Richard Rohr has some wisdom to help us cope, we’re listening. But then comes the title: The Tears of Things. Suddenly, we’re not talking about outrage anymore; now it’s sadness and loss. That’s quite a tonal shift, and we’re not sure we’re in the mood for something this reflective.

The blue watercolor background? Neither here nor there. Maybe it represents tears, but it’s not exactly compelling. And then at the bottom, we see the author wrote The Universal Christ. Ah. So this might have a spiritual angle. Maybe religious, maybe not. Either way, we started with “outrage” and somehow ended up at contemplative sorrow with possible scripture citations.

Based on the Cover, We Think This Book Is About:

This is a wisdom book helping us process modern frustrations, offering a mix of philosophy, spirituality, and big-picture thinking to help us deal with the messiness of life.

Rating: ★★★☆☆ (2/5)
