The Silent Patient

Reviewed by Alex Michaelides

Oh, look! It’s “The Silent Patient,” because nothing says riveting thriller like staring at a face wrapped in fabric. Is it a mummy? Is it a bad DIY project? No one knows! And that’s the mystery we’re all here for, folks.

The cover features what appears to be a close-up of someone’s face, eerily veiled and looking like they just had a really rough day at the spa. And let’s not ignore the most thrilling part: the torn fabric. Because apparently, scissors are too mainstream for this book.

Let’s talk about that title: “The Silent Patient.” Very original, right? Because the best kind of patient is the one who doesn’t talk back. What could be more intriguing than someone who literally has nothing to say? Sounds like a real page-turner!

And then there’s the author’s name, Alex Michaelides, taking up a good chunk of the cover space, because why not remind everyone who’s responsible for this minimalist masterpiece? The sheer subtlety of it—#1 New York Times Bestseller—because if you’re not bragging about your bestsellers, are you even an author?

In all seriousness, this cover is designed to draw you in with its minimalist horror vibe. It’s creepy, it’s unsettling, and it’s doing everything it can to make you wonder what’s inside. And maybe, just maybe, it delivers a psychological punch that’s as sharp as the edge of that ripped fabric.

JABBIC Rating: ★★★★☆ – “The Silent Patient” offers a chilling promise with its eerie, artfully torn cover. It’s probably worth the read, if you can get past the whole ‘silent’ thing. Just keep a pair of scissors handy in case you need to help the protagonist escape.
