Strictly No Elephants

Reviewed by Lisa Mantchev

‘Strictly No Elephants’ by Lisa Mantchev. First of all, what kind of world are we living in where there’s a sign saying ‘Strictly No Elephants’? I mean, you walk up to this house, and there it is, this kid and his pet elephant, just standing there.  It’s like something out of a Kafka novel, but with adorable illustrations. The whole thing screams exclusion and societal norms, like, ‘Oh, we love everyone… except if you have an elephant.’ And look at the kid – the scarf, the little sweater. It’s heartbreakingly sweet and tragically absurd. The cover is beautifully illustrated, making you want to dive into this world where, apparently, having an elephant as a friend is just another thing to overcome.  It’s a story about breaking down barriers, one adorable elephant at a time.”

**Rating: ★★★★☆ Summary: “Strictly No Elephants” by Lisa Mantchev presents a charming and whimsical cover that hints at a heartwarming story about friendship and acceptance. Perfect for readers who enjoy beautifully illustrated tales with a deeper message about inclusivity.

  1. Today is Pet Club day. There will be cats and dogs and fish, but strictly no elephants are allowed. The Pet Club doesn’t understand that pets come in all shapes and sizes, just like friends. Now it is time for a boy and his tiny pet elephant to show them what it means to be a true friend.
