Small Mercies

Reviewed by Dennis Lehane

‘Small Mercies’ by Dennis Lehane. What do we have here? Cops on horseback, a kid in plaid pants staring them down, and a shirt that says ‘Southie God’s Country.’ Yeah, because nothing says ‘welcome to the neighborhood’ like a standoff with mounted police. The cover’s split into this bold yellow and blue, like it’s trying to grab you by the throat and scream, ‘Pay attention, this is important!’ You can just feel the tension oozing out of this image, and you know this book is going to take you on a ride through some gritty, no-nonsense storytelling. If you’re looking for a book that promises to dive headfirst into the rough and tumble of urban life, this one’s got your name all over it. Just be ready for the ride!”

Rating: ★★★★☆ Summary: “Small Mercies” cover sets the stage for a tense, gripping narrative with its bold design and striking imagery. It’s perfect for readers ready to plunge into the raw realities of life in South Boston.
