Storm Clouds Rolling in

Reviewed by Ginny Dye

Storm Clouds Rolling In’ by Ginny Dye. We’ve got a classic Southern mansion, a dramatic storm brewing, and that tagline “1860-1861” which means we’re probably in for some Civil War drama. The cover is trying so hard to be epic with the lightning and the dark clouds, but honestly, it feels a bit much. It’s like the book is yelling, “Look at me! I’m full of conflict and turmoil!”

And what’s with the overly fancy title font? It looks like something you’d see on a historical soap opera. Then there’s the gold emblem at the top – The Bregdan Chronicles – which sounds like it’s trying to be some highbrow literary series. But all I can think is, who decided this was a good idea?

Rating: ★★☆☆☆ Summary: “Storm Clouds Rolling In” by Ginny Dye offers a melodramatic depiction of Civil War-era conflict with a cover that’s both over-the-top and reminiscent of a historical soap opera. Perfect for readers who enjoy highly dramatic historical fiction – but maybe tone it down a notch.
