The Fall of the Roman Empire: How to Mismanage an Empire

Reviewed by A. C. Dunne

I think they took a wrong road with this cover. From first glance, it seems like a straightforward history book. You have to look really closely to read the small print – “How To Mismanage An Empire.” Once you take out your magnifying glass and read this, you’ll realize it is a clever history book. (Or attempting to be.) It might be a business book, though.

So even though we don’t think the cover does author A.C. Dunne — whose name is ALSO incredibly tiny — We actually do get an idea of what the book is. It’s going playfully focus on all the things the Roman Empire did wrong to lead to its collapse.

So the cover works, though it asks a lot from us to recognize this.  So, so well done, Dunne.

  1. The Fall of the Roman Empire takes you on a joyride through the grandeur and demise of one of history’s most formidable empires. From gloriously gutsy Roman gladiators in the colosseum to the extraordinarily extra Roman emperors – think toga-wearing, Latin-spouting drama queens – we’ll paint a vivid, often hilariously absurd, picture of Rome’s rise and fall.
