The Wager

The Wager

Reviewed by David Grann

‘The Wager’ by David Grann. A ship in the middle of a storm, waves crashing everywhere – it’s like my worst nightmare. I get seasick just looking at it. And then there’s the subtitle: ‘A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder.’ Well, that’s comforting, isn’t it? Nothing like a bit of light reading to help you relax. The whole thing is so dramatic, you’d think it’s the poster for a summer blockbuster. And what’s the Wager?  Who’s going to loose their lunch first?  But I have to admit, it grabs your attention. If you’re into high-stakes maritime disasters and can stomach the tension, this book looks like it’s got plenty to keep you on edge. Just make sure you’re not reading it on a cruise.
