When Women Ran Fifth Avenue

Reviewed by Julie Satow

‘When Women Ran Fifth Avenue’ by Julie Satow. A black-and-white photo of a woman looking like she’s about to conquer the world. And what’s with the title? ‘Glamour and Power at the Dawn of American Fashion.’ Oh, great, just what I needed, more stories about rich people in fancy clothes. Can we get any more pretentious?

And this woman, she’s got that look, like, ‘I own this street, and you better not get in my way.’ The whole thing screams high society, power struggles, and probably more drama than a soap opera. If you’re into the fashion elite and all their glitzy problems, this might be your thing.

Rating: ★★★☆☆ Summary: “When Women Ran Fifth Avenue” by Julie Satow has a cover that oozes high fashion and power, promising a peek into the glamorous and dramatic world of early American fashion. Ideal for those fascinated by the upper echelons of society and their stylish escapades.
